The biggest film event of the summer in Rålis

On August 14-18, 2024, we had Sommarbio again in Rålambshovsparken, where we had five magical evenings under the sparkling starry sky, with five fantastic films, surrounded by the love of nature and people in front of the 90 sqm screen.

2024's films during Sommarbio were a great mix of sing-a-longs, suspense, action, love, Japanese anime and drama. We showed Mamma Mia!, Barbie, GoldenEye, Gladiator and Princess Mononoke.

We'll be back in 2025! We'll tell you more early in the spring.

Europe's biggest outdoor cinema – Since 1991

Stockholm International Film Festival's Sommarbio

A treasured August tradition

A warm late summer evening in Kungsträdgården in 1991. Tens of thousands of eagerly awating people have gathered to be part of the first open-air cinema in the Nordic area, where Hamlet (1990), starring Mel Gibson, will be shown. Suddenly a familiar voice sounds over Kungsträdgården. At the top of a giant ladder, Ernst Hugo Järegård is introducing the movie, without a microphone, with his famous Dramaten voice.

It's the start of what will become a thirty-five year tradition - Stockholm International Film Festival's Sommarbio. Every summer since 1991, we have shown modern film classics and cult films around Stockholm's green parks. For more than ten years, Sommarbio has taken place in the audience favourite Rålambshovsparken. In 2024, we broke audience records when over 60,000 visitors came to see films such as Mamma Mia!, Barbie, GoldenEye, Gladiator and Princess Mononoke. This made Stockholm International Film Festival's Sommarbio officially the largest outdoor cinema in Europe!

When the August darkness descends on Stockholm, you know it's time. Pack your picnic basket and bring your friends and family for an unforgettable cinema experience under the stars - for free.

Enjoy summer nights in Stockholm's best park, Rålis!

Get into the right mood and take inspiration from the gang in our Sommarbio film! You'll also get a taste of our beer and wine garden, which was another success last year with Peroni Nastro Azzurro and Pompette serving refreshments. Stockholm's largest outdoor cinema offers not only films, but also a total cultural festival! We have live music on stage - like last year's Nova Luther who you see in the film, competitions, an after party at nearby Eden and DJs playing in the tents around the audience area. This will be a week of nights to remember!
